Well known among students and professionals in the performing arts, the Alexander Technique has recently gained scientific recognition as a non-invasive yet highly effective tool for chronic lower back pain (www.bmj.com). Many people study the technique as a lifelong way to improve self awareness, consciousness, physical and mental alertness and to meet themselves in deeper ways as they move through life's challenges.
Initially you should come once or twice per week as you are learning new kinesthetic and motor skills. With improved use I recommend to take bi-weekly lessons.
After about 20 lessons you will be more independent in your practice and can maintain the improvements.
Some people continue their lessons over a life-time.
Alexander Technique teachers, certified by the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT, www.amsat.ws) have studied a minimum of three years in full time training programs encompassing 1600 hours.
I recommend the following book to my students:
At www.amsat.ws you will find many other titles, including CDs and DVDs, dedicated to your specific area of interest, or you will find a wealth of information if you perform a google search for "Alexander Technique."
